The Top Ten Suites at New York City’s 5-Star Hotels

Recently Forbes Travel Guide released its list of accolades for 2019, and New York City found itself with ten 5-star properties. In this issue, we take a look at the top suites at those properties with links to other very nice suites for each hotel.

1.   Baccarat Hotel 

Forbes Travel Guide says, “Famed crystal company Baccarat dazzled even the most jaded traveler when it opened its first hotel in New York City in 2015. With its unflinchingly glamorous public spaces, subtly luxurious guest rooms, splashy bars and an ultra-luxe spa, Baccarat Hotel and Residences is nothing short of pure opulence. Located across the street from the Museum of Modern Art on East 53rd Street, the French-inspired hotel is flooded with millions of dollars of prismatic Baccarat crystals…This glitzy hotel has a champagne call button in every room. There’s plenty of ways to relax at the hotel’s Spa de La Mer. Located below the ground level, the spa is equipped with four treatment rooms, a 55-foot-long marble-tiled pool and poolside daybeds.”

The 2,190 sq. ft. Baccarat Two-Bedroom Suite features a subtle palette of champagne, ivory, platinum, stainless steel and chocolate brown. A series of salon-like spaces extend from a large foyer into a living room with custom-designed seating and a separate powder room for visitors. In the dining room, a butler’s pantry and separate staff entrance make for easy entertaining. The en-suite Baccarat Bar offers fine wine chosen by the hotel’s t sommelier, Ruinart champagne, as well as a full range of spirits and Baccarat crystal barware

The Master Bedroom has a four-post king-sized bed, walk-in closet and expansive bathroom with double sinks, deep freestanding soaking tub, and glass-walled shower. The second bedroom has two double beds and a full bathroom. White marble surfaces outfit the powder room and master bath. 

2. Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown

Forbes Travel Guide says, “Standing 82 stories tall just a block from the World Trade Center, the new Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown helps usher the rebirth of Lower Manhattan post-September 11. All of the windows have breathtaking views of the city and that includes the nearby Santiago Calatrava-designed Oculus, a $3.9 billion art structure in the World Trade Center Transportation Hub that was created as a tangible expression of neighborhood resiliency. The area is heavy with shopping options, such as the Westfield World Trade Center (Dior, Caudalie, Tumi), Brookfield Place (Gucci, Jo Malone, Burberry) and Soho boutiques. There are also eateries in every direction serving pizza, pasta, seafood and anything one can imagine. Renowned designer Yabu Pushelberg did the room interiors and also gave a modern, chic flair to the rest of the hotel. Tidal wave marble walls add striking visuals, as do a display of gilded books in the lobby and an eye-catching suspended staircase. The 2,400 sq. ft. Royal Suite takes up half of the 24th floor. An art installation welcomes you in the entryway; the dining area is large enough to hold catered dinners for 10 people; mid-century modern furniture is arranged around a gas fireplace; and, a private media room beckons sports games or family movie nights.

Four Seasons New York is strategically located on East 57th Street, near a plethora of high-end shops and cultural institutions, like the Museum of Modern Art, Central Park, and Rockefeller Center,” say Forbes Travel Guide, adding, “From the moment you set foot (in the hotel), you’ll know you’re in one of the most luxurious hotels in all of Manhattan. Designed by the legendary I.M. Pei, the Midtown tower has a stunning Art Deco lobby with 33-foot vaulted onyx ceilings and honey-colored French Magny (the same limestone used by Pei in his expansion of the Louvre in Paris).

Named for the hotel’s owner, the 4,300 sq. ft. Ty Warner Penthouse is located on the 52nd floor with 360-degree views of the city. Four glass balconies are set on a diagonal to the north-south, east-west grid of Manhattan. Oversized, single-paned windows and glass railings ensure that your sightline is uninterrupted. The oversized rock crystal master bathroom with double sinks, deep soaking tub, separate glass-enclosed shower, and TV gives city views from the tub.

4. Mandarin Oriental, New York

Forbes Travel Guide says, “Every element at Mandarin Oriental, New York — from the gingko metal design finishes on the revolving doors and elevators to the framed kimonos hanging in the hallways to the Chinese gold throw pillows on the beds in the notably large rooms — reflects a sophisticated Asian aesthetic that recognizes the hotel chain’s Far Eastern heritage while simultaneously capturing the individuality of New York. The Columbus Circle location ensures that you’re in the thick of the action, just steps from Central Park, Broadway theaters and top-notch museums, but for a little time out in the Big Apple, don’t miss the Five-Star spa.”

The 3,300 sq. ft. three-bedroom Suite 5000 blends art, fashion, and design. Located on the hotel’s 50th floor, there are views of the Manhattan skyline, Central Park and the Hudson River from floor to ceiling windows. There’s a dining area, a large living room, and a separate media room.

5. Park Hyatt New York

“Occupying the first 25 floors of the 90-story One57 skyscraper, the hotel mesmerizes you with its beauty (keep your eyes peeled for architectural screens and hand-woven custom carpeting) thanks to interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg,” says Forbes Travel Guide, adding, “Created to make you feel as if you are in your own home, the common areas of the hotel are named The Study and The Living Room. In these comfy spaces outfitted with muted tones, plush couches, and fresh flowers like yellow calla lilies or green hydrangeas.”

The 2,300 sq. ft. Presidential Suite features one king bed with partial Central Park views, custom-designed furnishings, and special amenities—such as flexible check-in and check-out times, a complimentary spa treatment, and daily breakfast.

6. The Peninsula New York

“Traditional New York style and understated elegance surround you at every corner of The Peninsula New York. Expect to find dramatic, oversized crystal chandeliers, marble floors and staircases, Corinthian columns and soaring high ceilings accented in various shades of beige, gold, and green in the Beaux-Arts inspired building,” says Forbes Travel Guide.

A key feature is the hotel’s spa and 22nd-floor pool with a sweeping view of Fifth Avenue. There’s also an outdoor sundeck for when the weather is nice.

The 3,300 sq. ft. Peninsula Suite comprises six rooms, including a spacious master bedroom and bathroom, dining room with adjoining kitchen, living room, study, second bedroom and bathroom, and guest powder room. 

7. The Pierre, A Taj Hotel

A New York classic continues to impress after a long, glamorous history. The 1930s Georgian-style building is a mix of old and new…Gorgeous hand-painted murals from the hotel’s twentieth-century beginnings are still laced throughout the hotel (even in the fitness center), now sharing space with Indian artwork, some of which hails from the Taj flagship in Mumbai,” reports Forbes Travel Guide.

The Tata on the 39th floor offers views to the George Washington Bridge on a clear day. Gold, silver and porcelain tones adorn the décor, which translates through the suite’s living room, large dining room, bedrooms, and polished marble bathrooms. The two-bedroom, three-bathroom suite – decked in Murano glass chandeliers and custom furnishings is 1,980 sq. ft. and can be combined with other rooms and suites to offer six bedrooms under one key, creating a completely private rental on the entire floor.

8. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park  

The 33-story hotel features 253 rooms (including 47 suites) and a majestic art-filled lobby. Expect a sleek new look with hints of old New York scattered throughout — think a neutral color palette with dark wood molding, plush club-like chairs and chic marble tables. And even though it’s located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at the corner of Central Park South and Sixth Avenue, the hotel feels notably intimate and private, ideal for leisure travelers who seek a chic escape from the bustle,” says Forbes Travel Guide.

At 1,760 sq. ft. the Central Park Suite features panoramic views of Central Park from the 22nd floor, separate living, dining and working areas with seating for eight guests. There are two full marble bathrooms plus a guest toilet.

9. The St. Regis New York

“One of the city’s most iconic hotels, The St. Regis New York is a designated landmark with a history that dates back to 1904. The original owner, socialite John Jacob Astor IV, envisioned the hotel as a lavish retreat with residential flair,” says Forbes.

The newly redesigned 3,000 sq. ft., two-bedroom Presidential Suite has been redesigned with a contemporary to a classic blend. Fashioned in the style of a grand apartment, a large foyer that leads to the formal dining room, living room, wood-paneled library, bedrooms and bathrooms, and a full kitchen. The master suite comprises a separate dressing room, spa-style bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, and a bedroom with a private sitting area. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto large balconies with views of Central Park, Fifth Avenue, and 55th Street.

10. Trump International Hotel & Tower 

Forbes Travel Guide says, “The 52-story Trump International Hotel & Tower New York occupies a gleaming black glass tower situated at the corner of Columbus Circle and Central Park, smack in the middle of Manhattan. The hotel’s 167 rooms are tastefully appointed and many offer striking views of the park’s treetops from the floor-to-ceiling windows, yet what really sets the hotel apart from the pack is its discretion and commitment to excellent service.”

The 1,540 sq. ft. suite offers two bedrooms and views overlooking Central Park from floor-to-ceiling windows. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and an en-suite master bath. The guest bedroom offers a queen-size bed with a full bath. There is a dining area with a dining table and chairs, a handcrafted Schonbek crystal chandelier and a plush velvet queen-sized sofa bed
