For our fourth installment (following the Upper East Side, Central Park, and Midtown) covering the top suites at the best hotels of New York City, we look at the swath of Manhattan island south of 42nd Street and north of Houston. Again, there is no shortage of differentiated choices.
1. Equinox Hotel
Conde Nast Traveler says, “If you want a five-star hotel experience that’s all about the modern and the seamless integration between work, leisure, decadence, health, and sleep. Here, the relaxation of the mind is just as much of a priority as the joy of indulgence, and spaces are tailored to ensure each has their moment to flourish. Designer labels and fit bodies fill the lobby, where you might score a celebrity sighting. Yet the energy is less about being flashy and more about a calm and laid-back confidence.”
Forbes Travel Guide writes, “Imagined by acclaimed interior designer Joyce Wang, the luxury hotel’s 60,000-square-foot gym and spa is the largest health club in the Equinox portfolio. Its facilities and classes are free for hotel guests (with the exclusion of SoulCycle). For something unique, sign up for one of the Vessel Up workouts, a cardio-forward session that takes you to the top of the 150-foot-tall Vessel structure within Hudson Yards.”
Equinox Suite
The 1,520 sq. ft. Equinox Suite features an exactingly designed spacious living room with skyline views and a separate dining room for entertaining. When you’re ready to shut the city out, close the blackout shades and fall asleep to the flickering light of your private fireplace.

2. The Ritz-Carlton Nomad
Luxury travel agency group Virtuoso says, “Fifty stories of over-the-top luxury await at The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad. Experience the culinary genius of Michelin-starred chef, José Andrés as you savor creative cocktails and inventive mezze-style dining. Treat yourself to an indulgent Augustinus Bader facial or Rose Quartz Remedy in the 6,800-square-foot spa. And enjoy one of our 16 penthouse residences or 250 spacious guestrooms and suites decked out with dramatic chandeliers, black and white terrazzo tiled bathrooms, and stand-alone soaking tubs.”
Forbes Travel Guide adds, “The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad sits in one of NYC’s hottest neighborhoods. Residing in one of NoMad’s tallest buildings — designed by architect Rafael Viñoly — the hotel offers incredible views from the Empire State Building down to the Statue of Liberty. Admire the vistas everywhere, from the 219 guest rooms and 31 suites to the rooftop bar. The luxury hotel also seeks to build a reputation as a dining destination. Acclaimed chef José Andrés opened Zaytinya, an all-day restaurant serving mezze inspired by Turkish, Greek and Lebanese cuisines, as well as an outpost of The Bazaar, an innovative epicurean feast for the senses.”
The Ritz-Carlton Suite

3. Pendry Manhattan West
Forbes Travel Guide says, “Pendry Manhattan West brings a laid-back West Coast vibe to the East Coast. The Pendry brand’s first New York outpost, the newly built luxury hotel is a Midtown monument of gorgeous architecture with a rippled-wave glass exterior by acclaimed firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and calming, contemporary interiors by Gachot Studios. The hotel resides in the new 40-acre Manhattan West development that includes a Whole Foods, Danny Meyer restaurants Ci Siamo and Daily Provisions, a winter ice rink and a variety theater. But you don’t have to leave the confines of Pendry Manhattan West to find everything you need.”
Conde Nast Traveler adds, “Opened in September 2021 on the site of former open-air train yards, Pendry Manhattan West is the California-based Pendry Hotels’ second East Coast property (the other is in Baltimore). Its design aims to bring a West Coast vibe to Midtown Manhattan with 30 sprawling suites, modern furnishings, abundant greenery, and warm recessed lighting in both the rooms and common areas. Velvet banquette couches and mid-century modern furniture punctuate roomy seating areas throughout the hotel, along with two main restaurant venues, an elegant cocktail bar, and a cozy coffee shop. The resulting crowd is mostly cool creatives looking for a place to hole up, whom you’ll spot posted up on laptops in the cafe or lounges during the day, and bee-lining to the ground-floor Bar Pendry for an innovative cocktail with friends in the evenings.”
Skyline Suite
The 1,175-sq.ft. Skyline Two Bedroom King Suites offer higher floor sweeping skyline views from floor-to-ceiling windows, a corner location, two separate living areas and a dining table for six.

Mansion Suite bathrooms boast a luxurious sunken bathtub, double vanity sinks and a walk-in shower. The scene is completed with the heated white marble floor, whimsical wallpaper and green glass water cups. The Tower houses most guest rooms. Here, the decor runs slightly more subdued and takes a tropical turn, with rattan dividers, paisley patterned drapery and sleeker lines.”

Its iconic Fifth Avenue address and central location (near the Empire State Building, Times Square and Rockefeller Center) make it popular with both leisure and business travelers. 6. Soho House New York
Conde Nast Traveler writes, “After a long trip, it is heaven to find a full cocktail kit—including cutting board, knife, shaker, and fresh limes and lemons—waiting for you (along with bottles of Grey Goose, Patron and Bombay Sapphire). Otherwise, the Nespresso machine comes in handy if you have to go back out for dinner. Leave your stay feeling extra-refreshed—earlier this year the team launched Soho Skin, an intelligent skincare line for modern living that guests can try and take home (thanks to kits in every room). Soho House is known for its roomy bathrooms, and the New York branch is no exception. But the best part are the full-sized bottles of Cowshed amenities. And we love that toiletries like toothpaste and deodorant are provided, saving us a trip to the drug store.”
Big Room
The largest bedroom type – 700-sq. ft. – has industrial features to reflect the Soho House’s history, plus a seating area with a sofa and a freestanding bathtub.

Adjacent to Madison Square Park, it gives you direct access Manhattan’s trendy neighborhoods (Greenwich Village, Chelsea, NoMad, Gramercy Park) and sites (Eataly is across the park). It sits in one of the city’s most coveted neighborhoods, with easy access to the funky shops, bars, and eateries of the East Village. Check-in and check-out run like clockwork here; the front desk team are real pros. While there’s no on-site fitness center, guests have access to the Crunch gym across the street. The Garden is a calming oasis, ideal for a glass of wine or nibble. This idyllic outdoor space makes an excellent office in pleasant weather, so bring your laptop along. The hotel also offers an all-day café with a bar, an upscale restaurant, and NO BAR, an inclusive ‘new-wave gay bar’. Bicycles are available to explore the neighborhood.

As a result, the crowd is a mix of everyone from brunching neighborhood residents and locals on staycations to international tourists and older couples enjoying the city for the weekend. With such popular attractions as Little Island, the Whitney, the Highline, and designer shopping just blocks away, the hotel is ideal for those who want to get out and explore—but still want to have lots of fun options to come back to.”
