The Top Suites of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

One of Asia’s most overlooked and underrated cities in my opinion is Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia’s capital is a cultural melting pot, great for foodies, and provides a 5-star experience at prices where you will think they made a mistake in your favor. Here’s a look at the best suites at the top hotels.

1. St. Regis
2. Shangri-la Kuala Lumpur
3. Mandarin Oriental
4. Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur
5. The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur
6. Alila Bangsar
7. Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur

Forbes Travel Guides says, “The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur brings modern luxury to the Malaysian capital, having opened its marble-clad hallways in May 2016. Blending the brand’s passion for travel heritage with vibrant contemporary art, inventive Asian dining and eclectic design, it symbolizes the city’s rebirth of urban glamor. Set slightly apart from downtown, in the high-rise-filled KL Sentral business district, the hotel provides an impressive retreat for both business and leisure guests. Its spacious rooms and suites are among the largest in Asia, and each one gets its own dedicated butler. Six dining venues include heralded chef Takashi Saito’s Sushi Saito and Japan’s temple to tempura, Ginza Tenkuni. Iridium Spa pampers with indulgent treatments.”

The Telegraph says, “If you’ve stayed in any other Shangri-La hotels you’ll be familiar with the brand’s opulent style that, although some say is a little outdated, still feels gracious, considered and relevant. Central to the hotel lobby is a broad staircase that wraps around a grand water feature; marble pillars and a pleasing balance of horizontal and vertical lines set the tone for a hotel that really is a relaxing refuge in the city.”

Conde Nast Traveler says, “For five-star luxury set against the dramatic backdrop of Kuala Lumpur’s famed Petronas Twin Towers, bed down at the glitzy Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. Spacious rooms are decked out with expensive-feeling furnishings and come with all of the expected mod-cons – plus killer views over the skyline beyond. You’ll be slap bang central for easy exploring, but days might as well be spent lolling on the chic cabanas by the infinity pool, which sits perched among the treetops of KLCC Park, before sashaying downstairs to the spa for an afternoon between the sauna, steam room, and vitality pools. There’s no shortage of dining options either: line your belly at one of the hotel’s eight food and drink outlets, ranging from elegant Cantonese cuisine to tapas and cocktails by the pool. Those checking into suites can also access the MO Club, which comes with a host of extra privileges: complimentary afternoon tea, happy hour, and laundry service.”

Conde Nast Traveler writes, “Just steps away from the city’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers, Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur is the ultimate urban retreat, where uber-luxe sleepovers with a view over the skyline are a guarantee. Whitewashed bedrooms decked out with creamy neutrals offer floor-to-ceiling vistas over the city below, while amped-up suites dial it up a notch with metallic accents, and black marble bathrooms – along with access to the hotel’s exclusive Executive Club, where you’ll find complimentary snacks, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails served every day. You could easily spend your entire stay hiding away from the bustle of the city below and feasting at all six of the hotel’s restaurants – and make sure to carve out time at the award-winning spa, including a dip at the impressive 25-metre rooftop pool, which affords heart-stopping views over the city.”

This luxurious hotel boasts elegant colonial-style interiors, a landscaped garden and an outdoor swimming pool. Its 364 spacious guest rooms and suites come with state-of-the-art amenities, 24-hour butler services and luxurious marble bathrooms. Conde Nast Traveler reports, “Chic contemporary design is a guarantee at Alila Bangsar, where serene, light-filled bedrooms are heavily influenced by Japanese design, featuring neutral palettes, clean lines, and brushed brass accents. A far cry from the glitzy offerings and heritage buildings in the center of town, Alila is placed in upscale Bangsar, a neighborhood that may be a little further removed from the city’s sights but compensates for this by being home to some of the capital’s trendiest dining destinations. The hotel has two restaurants (an elegant French bistro and laidback cafe Botanica + Co), but make sure to maximize your stay here by exploring the vibrant nightlife and burgeoning restaurant scene on Alila’s doorstep. For downtime, retreat to the zen-like pool, framed by Japanese fauna and slatted wooden paneling, or blow off steam at the 24/7 gym.”

A generously sized balcony allows you to embrace the outdoors without stepping away from your perch.

Conde Nast Traveler Reports, “In bustling Bukit Bintang, just steps away from the shiny storefronts of Pavilion KL, Banyan Tree is an unexpectedly tranquil retreat set within a sleek high-rise. Mod-Asian bedrooms are sleek and minimal other than colorful strokes of abstract art, with beds strategically planted opposite floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the skyline. Grab morning pastries from the in-house patisserie Bake before venturing out to explore the sights, and return for dinner at Horizon Grill, which is seemingly perched among the clouds on the 58th floor. Meanwhile, shake off the jet lag at the hotel spa, where Asian wellness rituals take center stage, including indulgent massages and immersive three-hour-long therapies.”
