The Hotel Eurener Hof, now in its fourth generation, has been one of Trier’s insider tips since 1906. Everything once began with the royal tuber: At the end of the 19th century, our great- grandparents Johann and Katharina Haag ran a potato shop in addition to farming. Every day they supplied the 15,000 strong imperial guard with peeled potatoes, and both had the good idea to build a country inn. At the fair in 1906 the time had come. To the delight of the citizens of Euren, a handsome “Gasthof” was completed with an inn and adjoining rooms, a café terrace on the second floor and a banqueting hall for 300 people.

Deep inside Germany’s Black Forest, are the ruins of Kloster Allerheiligen, the Monastery of All Saints, which has been burnt time and again by lightning and fire but still exists today as a haunting ruin. According to historic reports, the first abbey was installed on the site in 1192 as a simple wooden construction. Over the next hundred years or more the church grew and upgraded, with the support of local donations and the greater church. However, even with the new stone edifice a large fire destroyed the monastery in 1470, and yet another blaze tore through the church again in 1555. Yet with each bout of destruction, repairs were made and the church stayed alive.

As though God himself had it out for the monastery, it was again burnt in 1804 when the abbey was struck by lightning just a couple of years after having been deconsecrated by the church. After the final calamity, no one bothered to try and repair the aging abbey and it was left to crumble as ruins. Despite this initial neglect, the ruins of the church remain today, kept from deteriorating further by historic preservationists. While it used to be monks and pilgrims flocking to the site, it is now tourists and lovers of beautiful ruin. Visiting in the autumn when the temperature starts to drop and fog accumulates around the ruins is recommended thanks to the spooky atmosphere the weather creates. In summer, there is also a beautiful Baroque Garden to explore and a cafe.

Baden-Baden is a cure and spa city as well as being famous for media, culture and international festivals. Already the Romans used the towns hot springs. During the middle Ages, Baden-Baden was the residence town of the margraviate Baden. After a catastrophic fire in 1689 the town then lost its status and was forgotten for about 200 years. Only in the 19th century the bath was rediscovered and together with the newly built casino Baden-Baden was developed into a internationally important meeting place for the wealthy and gentry. You will find many remains of this blooming period. The town’s landmark as well as the architectural and social center is the Kurhaus with the famous Casino – go and take a look. Within the old quarter you can find numerous shops and cafés and at the Baederviertel you will see the modern Caracalla Therme, the historic Friedrichsbad and antique Roman baths. Other nice places to visit are the Villa Hamilton, the Kloster Lichtenthal, the Schloss Hohenbaden or the Brahmshaus. After a restful evening, transfer to Frankfurt Airport for VIP departure.
