We begin our tour of the best hotels and top suites of Los Angeles in its downtown, where its new skyscraper luxury hotels offer majestic views from the Pacific Ocean to the snow-capped mountains to the east. Before we move on to other neighborhoods, we also take a look at the fantastic Tournament of Roses suite at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena.

1. The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles
Conde Nast Traveler writes, “Just outside is the Staples Center/LA Live, which is a bit like L.A.’s version of Times Square. It’s a fun area if you’re into sports but hop in a Lyft and head elsewhere—say, the nearby Arts District—for better dining, nightlife and culture. Smaller than most Ritz-Carlton properties, this location has a boutique feel—it’s even accessed by a separate, exclusive entrance on the side of the JW Marriott. The brand is known for its high-touch luxury, and this property follows suit. Special touches make it very L.A.: Saturday yoga classes, a Wolfgang Puck restaurant, a club level with skyline views, a heated rooftop pool and hot tub, and a glamorous full-service spa.”
The Ritz-Carlton Suite
The Ritz-Carlton Suite spans 2,920-sq.ft. and includes separate dining seating six and living room. You also get Club Access.

2. Conrad Los Angeles
Forbes Travel Guide says, “With the 2022 opening of the new Conrad Los Angeles, Downtown Los Angeles is home to not one but two glorious architectural sisters by legendary architect Frank Gehry flanking First and Grand streets. More than a decade in the making, Conrad Los Angeles is the inaugural West Coast hotel for the luxury brand. Like its distinctive Gehry-designed façade, the 25-story, 305-room ultra-modern hotel is a well-balanced cocktail of cool sophistication and whimsy, catering to both the all-business guest and leisure-seeker.”
Conrad Penthouse
The 1,633-sq.ft. Conrad Penthouse is on the 24th floor with its own private office, a separate living room and a large furnished terrace with views reaching as far as the Hollywood sign.

3. InterContinental Downtown
Forbes Travel Guide says, “When the soaring 73-floor glass tower of InterContinental Downtown Los Angeles welcomed guests in 2017, the hotel set new records — it’s the tallest building on the West Coast and the largest InterContinental property in the Americas. With its impressive stature, the 1,100-foot-tall skyscraper dazzles with 360-degree views of the City of Angels. But there’s so much more than meets the eye at this designer downtown stay. Perks abound on nearly every floor. Join a yoga class at the seventh-floor gym, then grab a sunset drink at the poolside No Dive Bar. Conduct business at the 70th-floor Club InterContinental before savoring dinner with friends at La Boucherie steakhouse on the 71st level. No matter how you spend your day, be sure to end your night with light SoCal breezes and DJ-spun tunes at Spire 73, the highest outdoor lounge in the Western Hemisphere.”
Presidential Suite
The 2,500-sq.ft. Presidential Suite offers expansive views across the Los Angeles basin to the Pacific Ocean.

4. JW Marriott Los Angeles LA Live
Forbes Travel Guide reports, “The JW’s not-so-secret weapon to high occupancy is the almost 100,000 square feet of state-of-the-art, well-appointed meeting and event space, including three stories of stacked meeting rooms. Ballrooms to boardrooms, the sky is virtually the limit for big event customization, from giant soundstages to glittering post-award show parties. Residing in this stately hotel tower places guests in close proximity to the city’s beloved NBA and NHL teams, movie premieres, culinary festivals, auto shows, the X Games, the Los Angeles Film Festival and more. This accommodating hotel provides all of the conveniences from home with its car rental center, dry cleaning services and business center. The 4,000-square-foot fitness center is flanked by crystal-clear windows that have views of the city for miles. The fourth-floor pool and sun deck, lined with cabanas and lounge chairs, is ideal for a restful break or a bit of people-watching.”

5. Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel
Michelin Guide says, “In recent years L.A.’s once-overlooked downtown district has come roaring back, and its renaissance continues with the advent of the Proper Hotel Downtown L.A., a 148-room luxury boutique hotel by the team that includes star designer Kelly Wearstler among its creative minds. Like the original Proper Hotel in San Francisco, it begins with the rehabilitation of a classic building, in this case a 1926-vintage Renaissance Revival building at the corner of 11th and Broadway.”
Two-Bedroom Pool Suite
This suite spans 3,054-sq.ft. and includes a 35 x 12 foot indoor swimming pool from the building’s YWCA past. Designed with an open floor plan for living and dining, the suite attaches to a lofty adjoining bedroom, collectively including two bedrooms (with a King and Queen-sized bed) and two en suite bathrooms.

6. The Langham Huntington Pasadena
Forbes Travel Guide writes, “The Langham Huntington, Pasadena has been a fixture of the city ever since it was built in 1906. After it failed to take flight as the Hotel Wentworth in 1907, it was resurrected in 1911 as the Huntington Hotel when railroad tycoon and art collector Henry Huntington purchased it and employed prominent architect Myron Hunt to redesign the main building and grounds. Situated on 23 acres with two gardens, the expansive hotel is made up of 379 guest rooms, 38 suites — including a two-bedroom, two-story Tournament of Roses suite —and eight private cottages. It also offers three grand historic ballrooms.”
Tournament of Roses Suite
Our showstopping two-story penthouse commands 360-degree views of the Horseshoe Garden, San Marino, and the majestic San Gabriel Mountains. Indulge in the height of luxury with a baby grand piano, a chic kitchenette, and opulent marble bathrooms with hot tubs.
