The Telegraph reports, “This city center hotel, housed in Manchester’s former Stock Exchange, shows off its heritage with style. Original features such as marble columns, stained glass and fireplaces sparkle, while an excellent restaurant by chef Niall Keating takes pride of place in the building’s magnificent dome, formerly the trading floor. As you enter the hotel’s reception area, the original gleaming black and white marble floor, enormous ceiling rose and stained glass above double doors set the scene for a special stay. The Manchester Stock Exchange first opened in 1906, and pictures and framed artefacts on the walls tell the story of the building’s history, from tinted photographs of a New Year’s Eve party to floor plans showing what the rooms were once used for.”

According to the Independent, “Wrapped up inside a towering Neoclassical 1920s building that once housed the Midland Bank, five-star Gotham is Manchester’s most theatrical hotel. Whereas other hotels nod to their heritage in their design, Gotham sings and dances about it. The Roaring Twenties are brought back to life through chequerboard floors, travel chests that stand in for coffee tables, Art Deco detailing, and drifts of faux fur, velvet and leather.”
