Visitors to Hilton Head Island enjoy world-class golf, pristine Atlantic beaches, tennis and pickleball, cycling along more than 60 miles of trails, boating, fishing, dolphin-watching cruises, and kayaking through salt marshes. While Hilton Head is probably better know for vacation rental properties, this week we look at the top suites at its best resorts.
1. The Inn & Club at Harbour Town
Forbes Travel Guide says, “With a full list of activities that have nothing to do with birdies and bogeys, The Inn & Club at Harbour Town is unquestionably the place to bring the family. The hotel’s attractions include concerts underneath the towering Liberty Oak near the marina or trips up to the top of the iconic red-and-white-striped lighthouse. The Harbour Town Clubhouse, which sits about a five-minute walk from your room, features oil paintings of past winners and has a men’s locker room so pristine that it will make a guy with a 36 handicap feel like Jordan Spieth. The Plantation Golf Club equally impresses with a spacious changing area, exposed brick near the pro shop and a sense of Lowcountry chicness oozing between every slab of hardwood on the 4,500-square-foot porch — Sea Pines’ greens can dazzle all year long.

2. Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort
Conde Nast Traveler reports, “This coastal getaway is located on sugar-sand beaches, and offers sparkling pools, delicious dining, and three championship golf courses. Located in the Palmetto Dunes beachfront community, several dining options are on-site, and private balconies overlook the oceanfront. Rooms options feature sofa beds, kitchenettes, and additional living space for families.”

3. The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa
U.S. News writes, “This Westin rides the middle – it’s not so luxurious that it out-prices visitors, nor is it in any way a downgrade from the other island resorts. It’s not flooded with children like some of its competitors, but there are still plenty of kid-friendly amenities to make young families feel at home. Plus, guests say the service they received was ideal, and the on-site restaurants all offer tasty fare. When it comes to rest and relaxation, the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa has three swimming pools and a whirlpool, plus the brand’s Heavenly Spa.”

4. Sonesta Resort Hilton Head
Conde Nast Traveler writes, “The 11 acres of tropical gardens set the scene for this idyllic resort, located on a stretch of the region’s most alluring coastline. The extensive grounds mean that the resort retains an air of exclusivity despite being surrounded by similar properties. The towering, light-flooded lobby has huge mirrors and artistic flourishes that elevate the place above its peers.

5. Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort
Conde Nast Traveler says, “Perhaps this resort is Disney for people who don’t like Disney, or at least the crowds, expenses, and relentless merchandising present at their theme parks. This lodge-themed retreat isn’t attached to any theme parks—the nearest one is a five-hour drive away—and is a more traditional resort, albeit one with its own water slide and a more family-focused approach than many Hilton Head resorts.”
