Top Hotels & Best Suites of Quebec

Overview

Quebec is one of those destinations that’s better in the winter, when it becomes like stepping into a fairytale. The annual Winter Carnival in February is a perfect time to visit, and if you are looking for a unique experience, try the ice hotel where you can have your own private fireplace and sauna.

1. Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

Forbes Travel Guide says, “It’s rare to find a photo of Quebec City that doesn’t feature Fairmont Le Château Frontenac — and for good reason. The stately stay has stood sentinel over the St. Lawrence River for more than a century, welcoming luxury rail travelers, celebrities, diplomats and even royalty with its signature towers and turrets that would look equally at home in the Loire Valley. In fact, the regal retreat’s design was inspired by the Chateauesque architectural style. The French term applies as much to its impressive facade as its sumptuous interiors. Sparking chandeliers line the molded ceilings of the wood-paneled lobby as smartly dressed bellhops whisk luggage racks through crowds of tourists and revelers visiting Bar 1608. Exhibits recalling the luxury hotel’s 130-year history line alcoves off the Old World entryway while key-card-only accessible room floors provide solace from the crowds perched outside one of the world’s most photographed hotels.”

Trudeau & Trudeau Suite

The Trudeau Trudeau Suite spans 1,356-sq.ft. and pays tribute to Pierre Elliott Trudeau and his son Justin Trudeau, two Canadian prime ministers who have stayed at the Château Frontenac over the years. The suite opens onto a long corridor that leads directly to large living area, two separate lounges, a dining room and a kitchenette. All the suite’s charm originates from one of the two living rooms that has been fitted out in one of the Château’s turrets. The large circular room is very bright and offers an exceptional view of the St. Lawrence River, Lévis on the other shore and the Dufferin Terrace.

1. Auberge Saint-Antoine

Forbes Travel Guide writes, “Whether you’re sipping on a deconstructed cocktail at Artefact or refining your senses at Coteau, Auberge Saint-Antoine is not afraid to show its deep roots in Quebec’s history. Owned and operated by the Price family, Auberge Saint-Antoine is a Relais & Châteaux establishment renowned for its top-notch service and chic décor. Set in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site with winding cobblestone streets, the charm and historical character of the hotel are highlighted with impeccable modern style and European flair.  Catering to the local population year-round, Coteau offers a more relaxed approach to food with a farm-to-table approach. Auberge Saint-Antoine makes for a cozy, luxurious getaway, especially for couples. Throughout the 95 rooms and suites, you’ll find museum-worthy artifacts dating as far back as the 1600s from what used to be l’îlot Hunt, the land on which the luxury hotel now stands. The historical suites of the Hunt House highlight the hotel’s purpose: creativity, warmth and history. While the wood paneling dates back to 1760, trendy lifestyle accessories give an updated sense of style and grace to the décor.

Panoramic Suite

The Suite Panoramic which is 750-sq.ft. is located on the sixth and top floor. It offers a stunning layout complete with a multitude of windows featuring exceptional light, contemporary furniture, a three-sided fireplace and a gorgeous bathroom. It feature also a 600-sq.ft. private terrace, a fireplace and a views of the St. Lawrence River, Île d’Orléans and some occasional luxury cruise ships stopping off in Québec City.

3. Hotel Le Germain Quebec

Michelin Guide says, “Classic architecture meets modern interior design in this Old Port boutique, perennial contender for the title of Québec City’s finest small hotel. Once the 1912 Dominion Fish & Fruit building, today it’s the Hotel le Germain, a warm and inviting home base for exploring the historic walled city of Old Québec. Though touches of the century-old building’s original architecture remain, the décor is modern, yet never off-puttingly so; deep white armchairs and soft electric light grace the public spaces, alongside antique candelabras and dark wood paneling. Guest rooms are spacious, decorated in a palette of muted earth tones, with massive beds covered in goose-down duvets; if you’re lucky enough to score a top-floor rooms with a view of the St. Lawrence River or the Old Town, you may find yourself tempted to stay in bed and just gaze out the window.”

While temperatures in the rooms and suites linger at around 25 degrees Fahrenheit, the bed frames (also made of ice) come with blankets and arctic sleeping bags. Pick from regular or theme suites; higher-end suites even have in-room fireplaces or private hot tubs for the cold weather weary.
